Hymnathon

“After 160 years of serving our local community, our beautiful and historically significant church is in need of repair. Tackling growing damp in our brickwork, attending to the roof, and installing a new heating and lighting system, amongst other things, is estimated to cost in the region of £1 million. Whilst this is a significant amount, we are not daunted by the challenge and wish to put the restoration of our church building at the heart of a wider rejuvenation campaign that will see us continuing to serve the needs of our local community for the next 160 years and beyond. Whilst we will be launching a formal fundraising appeal later in the year, we feel that the hymnathon will give a significant boost to our fundraising efforts.”
The Rev Dr Darrell Hannah
Rector of All Saints’ Church

Over the 16 and 17 May we held our first ever sponsored Hymnathon in All Saints’ Church, in order to raise vital funds for our Restoration Appeal.

First and foremost, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported this endeavour; in whatever capacity.  We could not have done it without you.

The Hymnathon in numbers:

571 hymns

28 hours

12 visiting choirs

5 organists

2 pianists

Multiple other musicians

Several hundred unique singers

To date, the event has raised in the region of £17,000, which is tremendous.  However, we know that some people still wish to donate so we are keeping our Go Fund Me page open for a couple of weeks - https://www.gofundme.com/f/sponsor-a-hymn-help-all-saints-raise-money-for-repairs.  In addition, please feel free to make donations via the office, but do let Julie know that they are for the Hymnathon.

Whilst this was a fundraising event, it was so much more than that.  It was about opening our doors wide and welcoming in anyone who came.  Over the course of the two days we welcomed literally hundreds of people, many of whom we had not met before.  We also welcomed our local MP, the Mayor of the Royal Borough, and the Chair of Sunninghill and Ascot Parish Council.

This was the final top 10 at the end of the event:

1. Love divine, all loves excelling

2. My song is love unknown

3. Praise, my soul, the King of heaven

4. O Lord, my God (How great thou art)

5. How sweet the name of Jesus sounds

6. And now, O Father, mindful of the love

7. O love that wilt not let me go

8. And did those feet in ancient times (Jerusalem)

9. The day thou gavest, Lord is ended

10. Hills of the north, rejoice
