Music at All Saints

All three groups meet for the occasional social evening – the senior choir has a curry night before the summer break, the juniors have a bowling and pizza night, and the band has a Christmas social.

Don’t hide your musical light under a bushel – come along and join in!

All Saints Choir is a robed four-part mixed choir and meets to rehearse every Thursday, 7.30-9pm in the choir vestry at All Saints' church They sing at the 10.30am Parish Mass every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month, preparing an anthem each week. Choral Evensong is sung on the second Sunday of the month and there is an annual Deanery Choral Evensong which this year will take place at All Saints on Sunday September 21st

Music for Holy Week & Easter and for Advent & Christmas is a particular focus for the first three and last three months of the year. Palm Sunday features an annual concert when the choir joins forces with other choirs from local churches, often a Requiem (by Faure, Goodall, Chilcott and Rutter in recent years).

This year, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of All Saints, Handel’s Messiah is being performed. There are no auditions – just come along on a Thursday night for a good sing.

All Saints Junior Choir is for boys and girls aged from about seven through to thirteen. They meet in the choir vestry each Thursday, 6.30-7.30pm, to rehearse and lead the singing at the All Saints Together services on the first Sunday of the month. The Royal School of Church Music “Voice for Life” scheme is followed and many choristers attend RSCM courses at Oxford at Easter and the Young Voices Festivals at Salisbury Cathedral in November. This year All Saints is hosting its own Young Voices Festival at All Saints on Saturday October 25th. The choristers sing at weddings and join with the senior choir for major festivals at Easter, All Saints Day and Christmas and the Deanery Evensong.

All Saints' Band accompanies the music at the All Saints Together services on the first Sunday of the month, and also the Christmas Eve crib service. They meet to rehearse on the Friday evening before each service. Currently the band includes piano, keyboard, accordion, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, violin, trombone, guitar, bass guitar and drums.
